Sam was a little perplexed by Halloween last year, but this year he was fully on board--excited about carving the pumpkins, wearing his costume, wandering through the neighborhood at night, and seeing all of the kids and adults and cobwebs and lights and jack o'lanterns and goblins.

And of course, had loved sampling some of his loot, too!

We spent the weekend in Sonoma County with friends, Robin and David. We all loved the view from our rental house over the vineyard. And Sam learned the syrah grapes aren't all that bad straight off the vine!

Saturday we had fun at the beach north of Bodega Bay...

...And then we enjoyed dinner in Occidental at the Bistro des Copains, where Sam ate olive tapenade straight from the dish with a spoon!

Our last stop Sunday before driving home was Wild Flour Bread, where we sampled various loaves and scones before saying goodbye to our friends.

Sam and I spent the morning in Half Moon Bay. First stop was ogling the 1700-pound pumpkin that won 1st prize at the weigh-off earlier this week. That's a big pumpkin!

Next, we cruised along Main Street and later popped into a local bakery for a pumpkin cookie.

Finally, last stop was the pumpkin patch, where we picked a few good ones to go home with us.

So glad to share time together with you!

A few days ago we had a weird night of lightning and wind...and the next morning our yard was strewn with needles from the neighbor's redwood tree. With the fall leaves starting to fall and the sun setting much earlier it's really starting to feel like fall! Perfect time for playing soccer with Dad and hanging out on the back porch to enjoy the last flowers of summer with Mia.
